SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT with Comment Box



SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT

The School and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

This School-Parent Compact is in effect during school year 2014-2015.

School Responsibilities

The School will:

  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:

  •  Present a sound curriculum that will prepare students to be productive citizens of the 21st century.
  • Nurture students’ creative and critical thinking with curriculum standards set forth in each discipline (reading/language arts, math, social studies, and science).
  • Address individual learning styles of students through a variety of classroom strategies and teaching techniques.
  • Adequately and continuously assess and monitor student progress through diverse assessments such as projects, observational notes, teacher-made tests, standardized tests, portfolio logs, and computerized assessments and journals and provide interventions.
  •  Challenge each student to attain proficiency in each subject area and provide continual support to help them achieve this goal.
  •  Work together with students, parents, and the community in a collaborative effort to provide the best possible education for our students.

  1. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.  

  •  Hold parent-teacher conferences in the fall semester to discuss the compact and how it relates to each individual child’s achievement. Also, provide the child’s progress informatio
  • Hold parent-teacher conferences in the spring semester to again review progress data and compact effects.


  1. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.  Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:

  • Progress reports will be issued after four and a half weeks into the nine-week grading period.
  • Report cards will be issued every nine weeks to keep parents informed of student’s progress.
  • Conferences may be arranged on an as needed basis in an effort to keep parents informed of their child’s progress.
  • When available, parents and/or students will have daily access to grades, attendance, and discipline reports through the INOW home portal.


  1. Provide parents reasonable access to staff.  Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:

  • Teachers may be contacted through school email, website or by phone.
  • Conferences can be scheduled with teachers and/or administration throughout the school year by calling for an appointment or making a written request.
  • Teachers are available for scheduled meetings during their planning time and after school.


  1. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:

  •  Parents are encouraged to volunteer in their child’s school in areas in which they are needed.
  •  The Parent Volunteer Coordinator will schedule volunteer times and organize volunteer activities


Parent Responsibilities
We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:
  • Sending my child to school, ready to learn, with appropriate school supplies.
  •  Monitoring attendance and punctuality.
  • Actively encouraging my child’s efforts and making sure that homework is completed.
  •  Monitoring the amount of television my child watches and technology game time along with promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.
  • Volunteering in my child’s school, whenever possible.
  •  Participating in parent-teacher conferences.
  •  Serving, when possible, on advisory groups, such as Title I advisory committees and parental involvement committees.
Student Responsibilities
We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards.  Specifically, we will:

  • Come to school regularly and on time
  • Work hard to do my best in school and do my homework.
  • Make sure that I have all of the school supplies that I need each day.
  • Read regularly every day outside of school time.
  • Obey class and school rules for good conduct.
  • Respect other students’ differences.
  • Avoid behaviors that keep my classmates or me from learning.
  • Respect the privacy and property of others.
