Survey Still Available! Parent Involvement Survey

Brewton City Schools is working to strengthen partnerships between schools and families in order to help children perform better in school.  In order to continue to do so, we need to collect information regarding the involvement of parents in the schools their child attends.  The purpose of this survey is to get your opinion on how well the schools have met your family’s  and child’s needs and how you feel about the school’s parental involvement activities.  There are no right or wrong answers.  We are only interested in your opinions.  The findings of the survey will be summarized and used to make improvements.  

The survey was made available on May 1, 2014. The deadline has been extended till Monday, May 19, 2014. This date is the same day of the district Title 1 advisory council meeting. The advisory council will examine the results for next year's parental involvement activities & priorities.

What Does it Mean to be a Schoolwide Title 1 School?

Brewton Elementary School and Brewton Middle School are schoolwide Title 1 schools.  This means they receive federal education funds. Title 1 was started in 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act (1965) and reauthorized in 2001 as The No Child Left Behind Act.  It provides federal funds to schools who have a certain level of economically disadvantaged students on roll. The level of poverty is determine by students who receive free and reduced price lunches; the census, and medicaid etc.  

Title 1 funds are used at Brewton Elementary School and Brewton Middle School to provide supplemental instruction support for students schoolwide.  Schoolwide Title 1 programs focus on the provision of activities and services to all students in the school.  In the case of Brewton Schools, funds are used for teachers to reduce class sizes, aides to provide instructional support in the schools, tutors to help students who may be struggling with content and instructional supplies.  

The district receives an allotment of Title 1 funds through The Alabama State Department of Education who divides Alabama total allotment between the various school district across the state. Again, the funds are based upon our student population who may be economically disadvantaged. For this reason, the allotment may differ from year to year as seen by the chart below.
